Why is goat's milk beneficial to my skin? Goat's milk does wonders for an individual's skin.
One of the main reasons for goat milk's success is because of PH. Our skin is slightly acidic and has a PH of 5.5. By using goat's milk in our soap, we create a soap that has a value of between 6.2 and 6.3, very close to the skin's natural PH. Commercial soaps have a PH of between 8.5 and 10.5.
Why does this matter? If you are using soap with a PH of 8.5 (which is a base) on your skin with a PH of 5.5 (which is acidic) there is a chemical reaction that takes place between the base and the acid. This is why people with sensitive skin react poorly to commercial soap.
Goat's milk also has alpha hydroxyl acid, a naturally occurring acid in goat's milk; this dissolves dead skin cells. When you remove the dead skin cells, your skin looks healthier and fresher. In addition, goat's milk contains a variety of minerals and vitamins that are good for the skin which are absorbed by simply rubbing the skin with the goat's milk soap. The minerals and vitamins are absorbed into the pores, where they help to build healthier skin.
